YOUNG REMBRANDTS AND ADULTS

At Hidden Talent Fine Art School we have a great group of artists ages 12-16. These students, some with no experience, have really excelled with this method. B. who is painted her puppy, has completed four wonderful works in oils and she is just 13! S. is working on an oriental garden painting. He recently won first place for his orchid painting in the Orchid Show in Edmonton. Well Done! E. is putting his finishing touches on a dirt bike, a complex painting! The front wheel will take a lot of careful painting, but he has the patience. Lessons are Mon. Evening and Thurs from5:00-7:00

G. Painting of steps along the beach. Her monochromatic is yellow ocher which will give warmth ot the painting. M.L. is finishing the foliage beside her door .V. is cleaning up edges on the bowls and berries. J. is working on her sky....a real prairie sky. L. has a charming picture of a grandfather and grandson planting the garden in the spring. Her work is meticulous!

Hint for the Day: Not all brushes are equal. We use synthetic taklon brushes for most blending and usually the underpainting. Expensive sable brushes are wasted on this part of the process. Save the $expensive one for the fine detail work, or at least use them when you already have a layer of paint on the canvas. Buy one or two new style brushes and give them a test run. Remember you will have favorite brushes and hopefully not to many just take up space in you paint kit!!

GREAT ART WEEK TWO

More students for you to follow. We do a monochromatic underpainting first, then add color as a separate layer.

Seeing What Developes...Week Two

The next few postings will have pictures of my students working on their paintings in class.
Since the art we do is realism, it takes awhile. Come next week or review older postings to see how they progress! Better yet...come join us!

WATCH ME NOW II

MORE SAT. PAINTERS!!

J. is painting the famous prairie icon...The grain elevator. They are disappearing rapidly and a lot of people are attracted to them. Her monochromatic is in blue which complements the wintry feel of the picture. She paints her sky directly, as all the sky colors are used in the underpainting.

M.L. is painting hollyhock leaves in this charming old world door painting. She has worked on the texture of the stone walls, and the smoothness of the door. That kind of contrast is a definite plus to a painting!

J. A beginner, will find that the techniques we teach will not only change her vision, but improve her drawing skills as well. Next week color!

L. Couldn't make it this week. She will bring in a charming painting of a grandad helping his grandson plant seed in the garden.

What are YOU painting/drawing?

JUST WATCH ME!

SAT. A.M. GROUP

At Hidden Talent Fine Art School we have a great group that paints on Sat. Morning. You will get to follow that progress every week and see how their paintings appear before you eyes. Here are some photos, and soon some comments from our students. Questions? Ask me and I will try and get back to you ASAP!

V. Is painting an aboriginal women who is making pemmican. The composition is strong, the figure is situated off center, and her choice for monochromatic is blue. She has just started to apply color.
L. Is finishing her second painting ever! She has finished her mono in brown warm tones and is staring with the hardest part...The kettle!
B. Has combined two references and finished her monochromatic in brown tones. She enjoyed doing the clouds, and kept her edges of the trees soft( very important!!) against the sky. She is now placing her darks in the sunflower field so she can find where she is in this detailed painting.

M. has a great painting! She is doing elephants, many of them. M. loves detail, so this is perfect for her...loads of wrinkles. She has a detailed drawing and has chosen purple for her monchromatic. This one may stay a monochromatic...she is doing this for her home.
H. has chosen a lion cub. She is working on getting the dark value just right. The color of it's fur was a bit of a surprize...alot of orange! This cat is big and bold, and the canvas size is perfect.
A. is finishing her painting of a small girl that stayed with her family for a while. She travels home from college and comes to paint classes whenever she can. Her mom and dad are very supportive, but wanted that tongue painted NOW!

MORE SAT. PAINTERS ON THE NEXT POST!!

WELCOME!
Hidden Talent Fine Art School
Instructor/Students
Art tips and Hints
Our art school is just over 10 years old. Laura starting giving lessons in her home, and as the size of her classes increased she looked for a roomy studio for the adults, children and teen. Hidden Talent Fine Art School is now located in Campbell Park in St. Albert. It is a private art school that also hosts
" Spot Light Gallery" and a
Frame Shop.
These are a few of the students. As you can see we are a realist group that emphasizes the fundamentals. These students have been painting for just over a year at Hidden Talent Fine Art School. Can you image where they will be in a couple of years????
